Our swimming pool is without a doubt the best in Bali. Not only because of
it's beach front position and negative edge / infinity design, where you
feel you are swimming out and over the ocean. But because you will never
be exposed to chlorine, bromide or salt. This is Indonesia's first ever
pure water swimming pool system. We do it for our guests enjoyment, and
to make sure we do not polute the sea / damage the coral offshore.
How
do we do it? First, water is recirculated. Over the negative edge onto
small rocks (to retain any large objects and to help filter out algae!),
then through sand box filters to remove smaller particles. Bacteria and
algae are killed by the specially designed, British manufactured UV (ultra
violet) sterlization system. Then finally, the water is fed back into the
pool through specialist magnets, imported from the USA. These agitate the
minerals in the water help achieve a satisfactory pH.
Our pool man keeps an eye on the mineral content, adjusting
it as necessary. And every so often, we have to filter the phosphate out
of the water (phosphate is what algae lives on). Of course, you may never
see all the mechanics of this happening. But you will feel it. Soft, almost
drinking quality water that does not sting your eyes, or make you cough. We
do have to periodically add shock chlorine to combat algae, but we only
do this at quiet periods and then run the UV system for 24 hours (which breaks
down the chlorine until it is totally gone).
We are currently back listed for / awaiting a specialist CO² and H³O system, made
for the pure water areas of the English Lake district. The carbon dioxide, as well
as making the water slightly effervescent, lowers the pH. While the extra hydrogen
atom in the H³O attaches itself to proteinous matter (algae) killing it and
leaving H²O (water). This will mean we will not have to add minerals or use
the occasional shock chlorine. We absolutely do not use Copper Sulphate as many
pools do (makes the water look blue and is an algaecide), as this can affect your
hair (turns it blue / green!) if used in too great a quantity and is known to kill
coral.
The
free form pool has a maximum depth of 1.85 meters, a central frangipani tree
island theme and a children's area. The surrounding palm shaded sun deck
area is ideal for our sun lounges / deck chairs. It also doubles as a
stage for evening cultural performances to entertain guests in their private
dining Bales. At night, the pool area is lit by flood lights high in the
palm trees. Children's floatation devices (water wings, etc.) are available.
Snorkeling lessons also can be provided. Our staff, of course, provide
a pool / beach towel service.
